Day 2

A solid 11 hrs sleep! Oh, the joys of sleeping in a bed and not sitting up in a plane 😂. Breaky was provided by our accommodation, so scrambled eggs, fresh bread/rolls, meat, cheese, cereal, fresh fruit...

We had a beautiful walk.

We found some street art of Lucy!

Ade's broken his only reading glasses, so we were on the hunt for some super glue. While we discovered some cheap Aussie wine, we found out supermarkets don't sell glue!

The good news is, we found the Belgian equivalent of the $2 shop, and Ade got 2 new pairs of reading glasses for a grand total of 5 euros. I bet they never break.

We hired a couple e-bikes for a few days. Here we are outside our accommodation (our room is the top left hand side window).

Ade's got a couple of routes around the area that he wants to take a look at. It's was a beautiful day, overcast but about 22 degrees - and no wind. The area is pretty flat too. We managed to clock up about 90kms. Boy are our bottoms sore, we haven't really ridden a bike since the last Peleton Tour! This is a rough guide of our route.

Ade won't be happy with this explanation but we visited strategic hills, defensive lines, cemeteries, vital supply lines and the sites of some important battles. We visited the grave of a family friend's (Frankie McCormack's) great uncle who fought in the same battalion and also would've known one of my great uncles!

Lunch was in Bailleul, in front of the beautiful Town Hall.

We found this marked bomb on the side of the road in a freshly ploughed paddock.

We stopped in Poperinge for a well deserved beverage and some tea - some rillett and sardines - yummo.

A quick rest and refresh at home, before heading out for a Wipers Time beer (brewed here in Ypres) and a night time walk.

Another 80kms to ride tomorrow - I'm not looking forward to getting back into the saddle.
